Pomegranates
The pomegranate is a member of the “berry family” and is considered by many to be one of the most exotic fruits of all. The Pomegranate, with its glistening ruby red seedsand dark red juice, provides a unique taste to salads, soups, marinades, desserts andjuice drinks.
The pomegranate has a thick, leathery, purplish red skin that protects the pinkish pulpand edible seeds.
The seeds provide a tart but sweet flavour. Many people eat just theseeds while others enjoy both the seeds and the pulp that surrounds the seeds.Pomegranates are native to south eastern Europe and Asia and were grown in ancient Egypt; they were regarded as a symbol of fertility by the ancient cultures of Egypt.
It seems that the pomegranate, once it had become established as an Egyptian tree, quickly earned a place among the sacred plants of Egypt.
